The order Ciconiiformes has 6 families, 47 genera and approximately 120 species. Members of this order, commonly referred to as herons, bitterns, egrets, spoonbills, ibis, vultures and wood storks, are generally long - necked and long - legged. This makes them well adapted for wading in relatively shallow water, even though some members of this order also feed on dry land. Their diets consist of fish, amphibians and crustaceans. The toes of the birds in the order Ciconiformes are not webbed. All Ciconiiformes are members of the class Aves or Birds.
