Cryptozoology is the often debated study of animals that are believed to exist, but have yet to be proven. There have been many new species “discovered” in recent years that were previously unknown to science such as the coelacanth and the giant forest hog. This fact keeps some scientist and groups searching for other “new” species as well as species believed extinct such as the ivory-billed woodpecker and the Tasmanian wolf (Thylacine). This field also pursues some species where concrete evidence is lacking such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster and the chupacabra. Many scientists refuse to accept the existence of some species based on the complete lack of evidence supporting it. Others continue their pursuit hanging on to the hope that evidence will someday present itself. Either way, the study of cryptozoology provides for some interesting stories.

| Okay, what is it? With its strange anatomical features, enormous eye orbits and somewhat minuscule dentition, it can't be human. These are the type of questions and interest one might expect from students when they are confronted with this unusual mock-alien skull. Brilliantly sculpted, this hypothesized cranium is useful when coupled with real skulls, aiding in understanding the underlying support for muscles and organs. So what is it? A great teaching aid. |
