Fossa Skull - The fossa is the largest carnivore found on the island of Madagascar. The fossa is shy, with a crepuscular to nocturnal existence. It is a solitary animal, except during the mating season. The fossa is a forest dweller, inhabiting most of the forested areas on the island of Madagascar. Due to over hunting and habitat destruction by humans, fossa populations are declining. It is estimated that only 2500 individuals survive in the wild. |
