Heterohyrax brucei, the bush, or yellow spotted, hyrax is native to much of central Africa. This species of hyrax inhabits rocky hillsides and out crops. Hyrax are herbivores, feeding on a wide variety of plants. When threatened, hyrax can be ferocious, using their saber-like teeth to gash at would-be predators. Bos taurus This one of a kind domestic cattle calf was stillborn with a severe facial deformation. The whole front maxillary portion of the skull is split to the cranium. This split allowed the lower jaw to grow upward and fill the void. The specimen is lacking a cranial vault and would have left little or no space for a brain. We have never seen, or even heard of a specimen like this. This is truly a unique skull. Display Stand included.

Galeopterus variegates Flying lemurs, also named by the Malaysian word "colugo", are not true lemurs. Flying lemurs were originally named for their comb-like lower incisors used for grooming. The two species of flying lemur represent a distinct order called Dermoptera. This order is a rare find in most collections. Representing a unique mammal order, hyrax are unusual mammals in that they are exothermic and their body temperature can fluctuate with external temperature. Outwardly, the hyrax resembles a large rodent but is most closely related to elephants. The tree hyrax gets its name by nesting in hollow dead trees.

Belgians are among the largest of the domestic horse breeds and this specimen is no exception. It measures over 23.5" long and dwarfs a standard horse skull. The miniature horse skull measures just 13.5" and is one of the smallest horse skulls we have cleaned here at Skulls Unlimited. This is a rare opportunity to obtain both of these rare specimens for your collection. Draft horse has damage to the occipital condyle and worn incisors.
