The order Pelecaniformes has 6 families, 8 genera and approximately 67 species. Birds of this order differ greatly, however all species have all four toes connected by webbing. Most have a pouch of bare skin located between the lower mandibles. The diet of members of the order Pelecaniformes consists mostly of fish however some feed on squid as well. All Pelecaniformes are members of the class Aves or Birds.
