Dinosaurs & Fossil Reptiles

These museum quality models are sculpted using the latest scientific facts and discoveries, cast in poly resin for durability and detail, and painted with acrylic resin for depth of color and longevity. Each product is hand-painted, therefore slight variations may occur.

Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs (Greek for "Terrible Lizard") were a Class of reptile-like species that were the dominant life on earth during the Mesozoic Era, from 230 to 65 million years ago. Dinosaurs varied greatly in size, ranging from the chicken-sized Compsognathus up to the behemoth 160,000 pound Brachiosaurus. They are classified into the orders Saurichia (lizard-hipped) and Ornithischia (bird-hipped). Dinosaurs have traditionally been assumed to have been cold-blooded, but in recent years, several different lines of evidence have been interpreted as indicating that dinosaurs may have been warm-blooded like birds and mammals.

Dinosaur diets varied greatly. Many, including some of the largest species, were herbivores, consuming vast quantities of vegetation to sustain their large bodies. Some, such as the great Tyrannosaurus rex, were carnivores, preying voraciously on other dinosaurs and keeping primitive mammals small and insignificant. Although dinosaurs reigned for around 140 million years, their extinction come suddenly. Many scientists agree that a large meteorite or comet hit the Earth causing an enormous cloud of dust, striking at the food chain by killing many plants. Others theorize that disease contributed to their extinction.

Fossil Reptiles

Lumped here with the dinosaurs, fossil reptiles express their own unique characteristics and qualities. Skulls Unlimited is proud to offer some of the finest replica fossil reptiles available including Dimetrodon and others.
