The family Pelecanidae consists of nine living species of pelicans. These large aquatic birds have a distinctive pouch under their beak. Pelicans are found on all continents except Antarctica. Along with the darters, cormorants, gannets, boobies, frigatebirds, and tropicbirds, pelicans make up the order Pelecaniformes.
