The family Muraenidae consists of approximately 200 species of moray eels. The typical length of a moray is 1.5 metres (4.9 ft) but can reach legths of up to 4 metres (13 ft). The morays have sometimes been described as vicious or ill-tempered but typically hide from humans and only attack when harrassed. Morays are carnivores, feeding primarily on fish, cephalopods, mollusks and crustaceans.
