Myrmecophagidae

Anteaters

The family Myrmecophagidae is a family of three species of anteaters, the giant anteater, and the Northern and Southern tamanduas. Myrmecophagids possess a distinctively elongated snout and long, narrow tongues that allow them to probe termite mounds and ant nests for food. They use these adaptations together with their powerful claws to rip open the mounds. Anteaters feed almost exclusively on ants and termites, which also serve as their primary source of water
