The order Sirenia consists of three living species of Manatees and a single species of Dugong. These animals are most accurately characterized by their curious gentle nature. Measuring up to 400cm long and weighing up to 908kg, they spend their days slowley floating around warm coastlines in search of aquatic plants.

Manatees possess an amazingly reduced pelvis. This tell-tale evolutionary sign may reflect a past life on land. Their skulls are heavy. The nasal cavity has a wide recess and the nasal bones are tremendously reduced making way for it's somewhat proboscis nose. The teeth grow continuously. As back molars grow into place, front molars are pushed out and expelled from the mouth.
