The family Suidae consists of sixteen species of pigs and hogs. Members of the Suidae originally occurred across Eurasia, on islands as far away as the Phillipines and Sulawesi, and throughout Africa. Fossil Suidae are known from the Oligocene of Europe and Asia and the Miocene of Africa. All Suidae are members of the Artiodactyla.
