This family includes all four species of tapirs including the Baird's, Brazilian, Maylasian and the Mountain tapir. This species inhabits areas of tropical South America as well as Southeast Asia. Tapirs are classified, like horses and rhinoceroses, as odd-toed ungulates due to them possessing three hind toes. All members of the Tapiridae belong to the order Perissodactyla.
