The order Trochiliformes consists of over 300 species of hummingbirds found in North and South America. Hummingbirds feed almost exclusively on nectar, but will occasionally take small insects. Hummingbirds are easily identified by their short tail feathers, long beak, and small size. Hummingbirds are some of the smallest birds in the world, the smallest of which is the Bee hummingbird, Mellisuga helenae, from South America. All Trochiliformes are members of the class Aves or Birds.
