The star-nosed mole is part of the Talpidae family and can be found in North America, usually in bogs, swamps, and wetlands. This species has water-repellent fur and a unique look due to the extremely sensitive star-like structure that surrounds its nose. Resembling tentacles, the "star" is about 1cm. in diameter and features 22 pink appendages. Star-nosed moles have poor eyesight but make up for it with an acute sense of smell. Their diet consists of small invertebrates, worms, insects, small amphibians and fish.
