The laughing kookaburra, named for its shrieking call that can be mistaken for laughter, is native to coastal areas of Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea. This species is a carnivore, and it uses its large beak to catch insects and small vertebrates. To cope with the arid environment in which they live, the Kookaburra rarely drinks water and can survive solely on the moisture it receives from its prey.
