These tree-dwelling Old World lizards of the iguana suborder are probably best known for their ability to change color. They have eyes that can see independently from one another, acrodont dentition - meaning their teeth are attached to the edge of the jaw - and atrophied venom glands that produce trace amounts of harmless venom. Chameleons are insectivores and have a slender, sticky tongue that projects out of the mouth to easily catch prey.
