Details
The domestic pig - also known as swine, domestic hog, or wild boar - descended from the introduction of Eurasian wild hogs. Pigs are believed to have been domesticated in Asia between 7,000 and 10,000 years ago. Today, this species is farmed worldwide as a food source. Feral or wild hog populations in the United States are increasing due to escaped domestic swine; feral pigs in groups can be highly destructive and are considered vermin in some states.
