Details
The domestic pig, also known as swine, domestic hog, or wild boar descended from the introduction of Eurasian wild hogs. Pigs are believed to have been domesticated in Asia between 7,000 and 10,000 years ago. Today, the domestic hog is farmed worldwide as a food source. Feral or wild hog populations in the United States are increasing due to escaped domestic swine; feral pigs in groups can be highly destructive and are considered vermin in some states.
