The Gambian pouched rat or African giant pouched rat is part of the Nesomyidae family. They are among the largest muroids in the world growing up to 3ft long including their tail. The Gambian pouched rat has become an invasive species in the Florida keys because of them escaping people's homes that had them as house pets. Their eyesight is very poor and mostly depend on their senses of smell and hearing.
