The common name genet can be applied to several species of viverrids ranging from southern Europe and Asia through southern Africa. Genets, strict carnivores, inhabit forests, grasslands, and savannahs. Most species of genet will feed on insects, rodents, birds, and reptiles. The genets characteristically spotted pelage and long slender bodies, make them easily identifiable when witnessed in the field.
