The Hermann's tortoise, or the Mediterranean spur-tailed tortoise was named after French naturalist Johann Hermann. This species has a yellow carapace with dark markings, stationary plastrons, with a faintly hooked upper jaw and a horned tip at the end of the tail. The coloration of the head will range from olive green to yellow with dark patches. Nearly all Hermann's tortoises will have a characteristic yellow fleck on their cheek.
