Skinks are part of the Scincidae family. There are more than 1,500 species of skinks in the Scincidae family. They look like true lizards but most of the species do not have a pronounced neck. Most species of skinks have long tails that can shed or detached when a predator grabs onto them. This species can grow back its tail within 3 to 4 months. Some skinks have green blood because of a buildup of the waste product biliverdin. Their diet consists of flies, crickets, grasshoppers, caterpillars, earthworms, snails, and other small lizards. They are carnivores and insectivores.
