The Townsend's mole is a fossorial mammal found in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. It is both a predator and a prey species, and it is the largest North American mole. It has a cylindrical body and spade-shaped front paws specialized for digging. The Townsend's mole spends most of its time underground, foraging in shallow burrows for earthworms, small invertebrates and plant material. This species displays sexual dimorphism, with males tending to be larger than females.
