The western spotted skunk is a species native to the western United States. This species can be differentiated from the striped skunk in that is has multiple white stripes or splotches rather than one single stripe, and the western spotted skunk produces a more pungent spray than the striped skunk.
*** The frontal bones of spotted skunks are most often eroded by a nasal parasite that results in open lesions or gross deformations of the frontal region. This is completely natural and therefore, skunk skulls with these malformations are still considered first quality. ***
