The Greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is the largest species of flamingo and is found across parts of Africa, southern Europe, and the Middle East, as well as regions of southwest Asia. They typically inhabit shallow lakes, lagoons, and coastal wetlands.
Relative to the size of its body, the flamingo has some of the longest legs and neck of any bird species. Its unusual bill and tongue are equipped with specialized bristles that allow it to filter small organisms and plant material from the water while feeding with its bill held upside down beneath the surface.
