The common ostrich is a large flightless bird native to parts of Africa. Ostriches are the world's largest birds, with recorded heights of up to 9 feet (2.7 m). They are primarily vegetarian, occasionally feeding on locusts and remains left behind by predators. Ostriches are territorial and males may fight to defend harems of 3 to 5 hens.
