This is a one-of-a-kind product with unique photographs. You will receive the exact specimen shown, and once sold, it will be removed from the website.
This American Marten (Martes americana) skull exhibits an orbital pathology, with one orbit markedly enlarged and occupied by an abnormal mass. Dentition is well-preserved, including intact carnassials, and the zygomatic arches and postorbital processes are clearly defined. A useful specimen for comparative pathology studies, mammalogy coursework, and natural history collections.
The American marten, a solitary and nocturnal member of the Mustelidae family, is found in the northern most parts of the United States, through most of Canada and into Alaska. An opportunistic feeder, the marten primarily eats other small mammals. The American marten is very similar in structure and habit to the European marten species.
