Coyotes are a fascinating, evasive, and often misunderstood member of the Canidae family, having quite a bit in common with dogs, wolves, and jackals. Coyotes prefer open land to forests, and as such are sometimes referred to as "prairie wolves." In Native American folklore, the coyote was often depicted as a "trickster" whose unwise and opportunistic choices constantly get him into trouble, but whose cunning, clever nature allows him to escape the troubles just as easily.
