The reticulated python, native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia, is one of the world's largest snakes. Reaching a length of 25 feet in the wild is fairly common, the largest specimen on record was a captive female from the Pittsburgh Zoo. She stretched an astonishing 28 feet and weighed over 300 pounds, a living coil of muscle and calm, deliberate power. In the wild, reticulated pythons typically feed on mammals and birds, ranging from rats and civets to pigs and even small deer.
