The red deer is one of the largest deer species. Male stag can weigh from 350 to 530 pounds and can have 28 to 45 inch antlers that they shed and grow each year. The red deer inhabits most of Europe and has been introduced to Australia, North America, and parts of South America. They are closely related to the American elk and can sometimes be slightly larger than them.
