The southern giraffe is a tall, herbivorous mammal native to southern Africa, including Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. It has a light brown coat with large, irregular patches and a long neck that helps it reach leaves high in trees, particularly acacias. Social and mostly gentle, southern giraffes live in loose herds and play a crucial role in maintaining their ecosystems by dispersing seeds and shaping vegetation.
