The spectacled caiman is a medium-sized crocodilian found throughout Central and South America, named for the bony ridge between its eyes that resembles a pair of spectacles. Typically growing 6–8 feet long, it inhabits rivers, swamps, and wetlands, where it feeds on fish, amphibians, birds, and small mammals. Highly adaptable and resilient, the spectacled caiman is the most widespread of all caiman species.
- This caiman (Caiman crocodilus) originated from the Everglades. As this species is considered invasive, the animal was humanely euthanized in accordance with invasive species management practices.
