Brown pelicans, named for their dark-brownish chest plumage, are a large bird not easily mistaken for any other species in its range. This species is native to the Atlantic, Gulf and Pacific coasts of North America but will occasionally migrate inland seasonally. Pelicans use their long beaks and wide throat pouch to gulp various fish species.
