The Chinese alligator (also called the Yangtze alligator), is one of only two species of Alligators, the other being the American alligator. The Chinese alligator, as its name suggests, is native to region of the Yangtze river in China. It is smaller than the American alligator growing to an average of 1.5 m (5 ft). With fewer than 200 individuals left in existence the Chinese alligator is listed as a critically endangered species.
