Details
Cuvier's beaked whales are found in nearly all of the world's oceans. Males of this species possess two teeth that protrude from the lower jaw that are sometimes used in sparring with other males. This often leaves characteristic scars all along their opponent's body. Females also possess these teeth, but they rarely erupt beyond the gum line. Cuvier's beaked whales travel in pods numbering 10 to 15 individuals but males are occasionally solitary. This species feeds on various crustaceans, mollusks, squid and pelagic fish.
