Dinictis was a genus of sabre-toothed cats that lived during the Oligocene epoch, around 33 to 26 million years ago. Belonging to the family Nimravidae, these prehistoric predators had elongated, curved canine teeth similar to the more famous Smilodon, although they were not true cats. Dinictis had a lithe body, short legs, and retractable claws, making it a skilled hunter in its North American environment, where it likely preyed on small to medium-sized mammals.
