Herons, members of the family Ardeidae, are wading birds with long legs, necks and beaks. The great-blue heron is found throughout much of the US and Canada and ranges in to Mexico. This is a large heron, standing nearly 6' tall, and can be seen near the waters edge hunting its prey. The great-blue heron feeds on fish, frogs and crustaceans that it grabs with its spear-like beak.
