The Sumatran orangutan is a critically endangered species native to the rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia. These large, tree-dwelling primates are known for their distinctive reddish-brown fur and highly solitary nature compared to other great apes. Primarily herbivorous, they feed on fruits, leaves, and insects, and are essential to their ecosystem by dispersing seeds through the forest. With long arms adapted for swinging from tree to tree, they spend most of their time in the forest canopy.
