The short- beaked echidna also known as the spiny anteater, is a mammal that lays eggs. The platypus and the Echidna are the only two living mammals that lay eggs. Echidnas are insectivores and use their long sticky tongue to lap up insects. They are native to Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea.
