Leeches are segmented worms belonging to the phylum Annelida. They are found in freshwater, marine, and terrestrial environments worldwide. Known for their blood-feeding behavior, leeches use specialized structures to attach to their hosts and consume blood. However, not all leech species are hematophagous; some feed on invertebrates or detritus.
