The Chinese water deer is a unique and fascinating creature native to East Asia. What sets this deer apart is its distinctive tusks, which are actually elongated upper canine teeth. These remarkable tusks are absent in females and lend the species its nickname, "vampire deer." Preferring wetland habitats, marshes, and reed beds, the Chinese water deer displays a remarkable adaptation to its environment. Despite its name, it is not a strong swimmer but is instead well-suited to the aquatic vegetation-rich areas it inhabits.
