Real Spectacled Caiman Skull

This real spectacled caiman skull originates from the Everglades, where it was humanely euthanized as part of invasive species management. Rather than being discarded, this individual was legally salvaged and professionally prepared for educational and scientific purposes. The skull showcases the distinctive anatomical features of Caiman crocodilus, including the characteristic bony ridge between the eyes that gives the species its common name. The spectacled caiman is a medium-sized crocodilian found throughout Central and South America, named for the bony ridge between its eyes that resembles a pair of spectacles. Typically growing 6–8 feet long, it inhabits rivers, swamps, and wetlands, where it feeds on fish, amphibians, birds, and small mammals. Highly adaptable and resilient, the spectacled caiman is the most widespread of all caiman species.
