St. Augustine Alligator Farm: The Legend of Gomek
Gomek was a legendary saltwater crocodile that gained fame for its enormous size and gentle demeanor. Captured in Papua New Guinea in the 1980s, Gomek became a popular attraction at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park in Florida, USA. Measuring over 17 feet (5.2 meters) in length and weighing around 2,000 pounds (900 kilograms), Gomek was one of the largest crocodiles in captivity at the time. Despite his intimidating size, Gomek was known for his calm disposition and became a beloved icon at the zoo until his death in 1997.
